To Kill a Mockingbird - 7th Grade

"Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird."
A lawyer's advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee's classic novel—a black man charged with the rape of a white girl. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with rich humor and unswerving honesty the irrationality of adult attitudes toward race and class in the Deep South of the 1930s. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence, and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina and quiet heroism of one man's struggle for justice—but the weight of history will only tolerate so much.
One of the best-loved classics of all time, To Kill a Mockingbird has earned many dis-tinctions since its original publication in 1960. It has won the Pulitzer Prize, been translated into more than forty languages, sold more than forty million copies worldwide, and been made into an enormously popular movie. It was also named the best novel of the twentieth century by librarians across the country (Library Journal).

  3. The Boo Radley in my neighborhood is this man who lives down the block from me. He never comes out of his house. There are many people that live in his house. I have seen the man once and it was when he was walking his dog and he was really strange. I have never seen his garage door open once and I have hardly ever seen the front door of his house open. There are little toys for toddlers in his backyard but I have never seen anyone play with them.

  4. My Boo Radley was this guy who would always walk by my friend and my house almost everyday. The reason he was so creepy was because one of his eyes was completely white. It was really creepy! My friend and I always used to make up stories like he lives in a haunted house or he's a ghost. Now he still walks by my house a lot and I don't think he's that creepy anymore.

  5. My Boo Radley is my really mean and creepy neighbor. When ever somebody walks on his grass he yells at them. Even if he is inside somehow he still sees you. Also he is a cop and he threatens people by saying he has power. During Halloween nobody goes to his house because they are all scared of him. One time i was riding my bike when I was little. I accidentally fell over and landed on his grass. He didn't care that I was hurt, so he still yelled at me to get off his lawn. He is definitely my Boo Radley!

  7. The "Boo Radley" on my blook used to be this mean old lady who would take the balls you might have kicked into her yard and yell at you for being on her property when you weren't. When she wasn't yelling at kids, she would be smoking a cigar on the front steps of her Georgian house or knitting. Nobody ever came to visit her and she never left her house unless she had to get her groceries. We used to have block parties every summer, but she would always yell at us for making too much noise and would chase after kids who stepped on her lawn. A few years ago, she moved to a nursing home in Tinley Park.

  8. Katie's Boo Radley,
This guy would take walks at night with his cat named Midnight. You would never see him during the day. Once I was coming home from school and I saw his cat walking into the street. A car was coming and ran over the cat. That same day I saw him for the first time in the day. He was driving his car somewhere. Later that evening I saw him with a full car full of food. Till this day he hasn't been seen ever again.

  9. Rob Slick is a mysterious kid. He walks around the block for no reason, and always gets in trouble with the law. 'Slick' hangs out with the wrong crowd who like to do drugs and skip school. His parents hope he will improve. He is also a good kid, and helps neighbors in need.

  10. The Boo Radley of my block is my next-door-neighbor. She was nice at first but when her husband divorced her she went CRAZY! I rarely saw her and whenever I did she was drunk tripping down the sidewalk. Eventually, she started to rent her house out to creepy people. Whenever someone needs to pass the house they cross the street or throw their garbage on their lawn. They are SUPER CREEPY!!!

  11. My Boo Radeley in a way wasn't really a Boo Radley. I never talked to him but I saw him once in a while. My nieghbor told me he was a mean old freak. I couldn't believe him since my cousin had told me it was a lie and he had met him. He did seem a little scary because to me he was only in the window or on a porch. I just avoided that house.

  12. My Boo Radly is an old lady on my block. I think she is very creepy. When my brothers and I play football and accidentally kick the ball on her lawn and step on her lawn to get it, she is suddenly staring out of her front window. It really creeps me out when she stares at me and that is why I avoid her lawn as much as I can. I don't see her as much as I used to but I still think she is a very creepy and crazy old lady.

  13. The Boo Radley on my street is this guy in his car whom I see once in a while, when we park our car. The guy just sits there smoking. I know it doesn't seem creepy, but the thing is (I live in a condo)I don't know which condo he lives in. He doesn't park in a parking space with a number on it so it is not certain that he even lives here! But I guess I shouldn't judge, he might be renting a room.

I guess I got things mixed up so I thought she said she was a witch. And then I would always think she was a witch. But I told my mom and she is a nice lady my mom said. Then one day we were passing by her garden a couple weeks ago. My mom thoguht they were beautiful flowers. My mom saw she was trimming the flowers because it fall. And my mom asked her if she could have a flower and she said ok. I learned my lesson never judge a book by its cover.

  18. My Boo Radley is a house few doors down from me. I have only met the family once back in July of this year. They seemed nice but I haven't seen them since that day. The house seems like a haunted house and the gass is all dead. The house looks like no one has taken care of it in years. No one has gone in or out of that house and it looks like they have stopped their mail and newspaper because there is never mail in the mail box and there is no newspapers on their front steps.

  19. There is a man who walks around the town with a shopping carts. He walks up and down the main streets all day long. Sometimes he carries groceries, but most of the time the cart is empty. Even in the winter he walks while it is sunny. My mom said he walked the streets when she was small too!

  20. My Boo Radley is my neighbors which me and my family and friends call the "Cat Ladies". they walk their cats around their huge backyard which is even bigger than my house. They even shovel snow into a path in the winter to walk their cats. they didn't seem that crazy until one day I was playing hockey and I heard a loud scream and I thought someone was hurt but it turns out all that had happened was that their cat had strayed 3 feet from them. They also sometimes scream when a squirrel gets near the cats. They alarm me at least 5 times a day rain or shine 24/7.

  21. This is the story of my Boo Radley. There is a man that lives by house, and he doesn't really talk to anybody. He has some fish in his backyard and if you go to look at them, sometimes he will yell at you. He doesn't really leave his house much, and when he is in his house he usually stares out the window. This man really reminds me of the real Boo Radley in the book.

  22. My boo radley is my neighbor that does karate in his front yard with his friends. He has really messy hair and dresses weridly. I never see him only when he is with his friends or sometimes in the moring walking to the bus. He walks with an odd swag. He is one of the weirdest people I've ever met.

  23. My Boo Radley was called Hairy. All of the kids around my neighborhood called him Hairy because he was a very hairy man and was very aloof with everyone around our community. He never spoke or even said one word, or at least no one has heard. People would make rude songs and comments about him and in front of him. He was very creepy looking and some people said that he would come out late at night, while everyone is sleeping, and sleep at a different backyard or even find a way to get in the house to sleep in every night. Everyone said he was homeless and suffered from mental illnesses.

  24. When I was little on my street I had this little old lady. She wore all white, all the time. She was homeless, we assumed. She sat across the street from my house. Can you guess what she did? Read. All she did, all the time, was read! I don't know where she got the books from, but thats all she did. Then, one day in the middle of July, it was really hot. There she was reading her book. I was with my aunt and we had just come back from Jewel. We bought a container of water bottles, so she took one out and put in next to her. Then, "the lady in white" as I called her, took the water bottle and through it at my aunts car. I got really scared because I was pretty young. My aunt then called the police because "the lady in white", had been standing in front of our house screaming and, saying not so nice words. The fire department came but she had all ready left. She came back once in a while to read, and everytime she would pass my house I would always see her stare. All the kids were also scared of her. Nobody could look at her without getting the chills, or getting scared and running into their house. That is my crazy person!

  26. My Boo Radley is in my family. He is like the family member everyone dislikes and that nobody trusts or hangs out with. He has so many bad stories about him. I have only met him once, he is skinny, tall, sort of raggedy cloths, and short light grey hair.

  27. My Boo Radley is a guy I see sittin on his porch whenever I go biking. He's really weird because he is always shirtless and smokes. Some kids on my block have talked to him and they tell me he has a really deep voice. To get to the park I have to pass by his house and when I do he just stares at me. He has a wife but she rarely comes out. When she does come out they both stare at me. It is really weird and I hate passing by his house. THE END

  28. My Boo Radley isn't as creepy as Boo Radley in the book. My Boo Radley is some old guy who rides his bike very slow down my street every day during the summer. I can't think of one day when he didn't ride is bike down my street. My neighbor and I wanted to know why he always did that, but we never found out. We always thought he was looking at the kids that were playing outside at the time.

  30. The Boo on my block was this one girl who my other neighbor and I always didn't like. We thought she was really weird because she always followed us around and was kind of nerdy. One time my neighbor and I hid for two hours in her house to hide from "Boo". She also found out my number, somehow and called me over and over again until I answered. She moved away a few years ago. I kind of feel bad for doing that to her, though.

  33. My Boo Radley on my block is a lady that walks down with two dogs. She wears a short shirt, and it shows her stomach. It is really gross to see her because she is like 65 and she has wrinkles. She has a CD player strapped to her short shorts, and i hear her jamming to 80's music. I just think she is really strange.

  34. Everyday I would walk to school and an old man would walk past my house with a smirk across his face. I didn't know him and didn't want to. There has been a legend made about him. It says that the old man was a spy for the Russian government. He would never talk to any of the neighbors and if approached he would always say he had to go. There would even be police that would put his house under surveillance. Nothing was ever proven.

  35. A person similar to Mr. Radley that is on my block is some guy that walks around with mail and talks to himself. I talked to him one time and he wasn't mean or anything. He was kinda weird but he was nice. I only talked to him once so I don't think I should judge him. My cousin lives right by me, so he sees him to and my aunt said he was in war or something. He's effected by that but she doesn't know for sure. I don't think I will ever really know whats up with that guy because im never going to ask him.
