Golding's best-known novel is the story of a group of boys who, after a plane crash, set up a fragile community on a previously uninhabited island. As memories of home recede and the blood from frenzied pig-hunts arouses them, the boys' childish fear turns into something deeper and more primitive.

Id want Piggy to be leader because he is smart and caring but it would be hard for him to take charge due to his lack of confidence.
ReplyDeleteI would choose Piggy to be the leader. He's smart and knows more than Ralph and Jack. Just because Piggy can't run too fast doesn't mean he shouldn't be the leader. He knows how to start a fire just to smoke. Jack riled everyone up and started a big fire. If Piggy wouldn't be leader then I would choose Ralph because he seems more responsible and he wants to get off of the island instead of trying to survive.
ReplyDeleteI would like to have Piggy as my leader. He's smart, and has good ideas. He was the one who told them to use his glasses to start the fire. It was a lot quicker then rubbing two sticks together.
ReplyDeleteI think Ralph would be the better leader. He is strong and he knows how to get the group of boys to listen to him. Jack causes uproar and no order or discipline. Ralph leads the group without fear and isn't bossy. Piggy isn't as strong (physically and mentally) as Ralph or Jack.
ReplyDeleteI would rather had Ralph as my leader than Piggy or Jack. He is a good leader because he is nice and fair t people. He listens to Piggy's ideas and he relies on Piggy. He focuses on being rescued and If I was on the island I would want to be rescued as soon as possible, but also Jack has a point that they need to survive.
ReplyDeleteRalph is a good leader. He is a lot better then Merridew. Ralph can get people to listen to him and motive them. Merridew is a crazy cannibal. Piggy isn't a good leader. Piggy is a good adviser. Piggy's smart but no one will listen to him, so that's why we have Ralph.
ReplyDeleteI would rather have Ralph as a leader. I would want him as leader because he seems to have a clearer head. He wants to be rescued, but wants everybody to be safe. Jack wants everything to be around finding food, but Ralph wants to do more important things, like getting rescued.
ReplyDeletei think the leader should be piggy because he is the smartest and he is very important cause his glasses could start a fire and he knows the most and he is fair.....!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI would rather have Ralph as my leader than Jack or Piggy. Jack doesn't seem like a good leader and Piggy is too whiny. Ralph is more focused on being rescued from the island, while Jack just wants to survive. Also, Ralph seems more responsible than the other two.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would pick one leader because I think all of their leadership traits compliment each other. Alone they have major issues with being a leader- Piggy can't get people to listen to him, Ralph isn't very focused, and Jack is headstrong and doesn't think before he does things. Together they could form a kind of government that would combine all of the things that makes them good as leaders- Piggy's practicality, Ralph's natural leadership, and Jack's charisma. But, if I had to pick one as my leader, I'd pick Piggy, because like Ralph, he wants to get off the island and, like Jack, he also wants to survive while he's there. He's very rational.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to choose between Ralph, Jack, and Piggy to be leader I would choose Piggy all the way. Piggy would be a good leader because he is smart and if anybody would let him he would be very organized. Also Piggy sounds like he is the only person with some kind of survival skills, even if he doesn't look like it.
ReplyDeletePersonally i would preferably want to have Piggy out of Piggy, Jack or Ralph. I would want to have Piggy more because in my opinion he would make a better leader. He isn't very tough and he definitely is not a hunter but that is what jack and the hunters are for. Jack can work a crowd but that is all he can do...he is all talk and no action, but i think if he got hungry enough he would kill a pig. The main reason for me choosing
ReplyDeletePiggy is because he is smart and he thinks things out more than Ralph and Jack.
Who would I rather have as a leader Ralph or Piggy or Jack, and why?
ReplyDeleteI would rather have Piggy cause I think he knows how to use his natural resources better than Ralph pr Jack. I think he knows how to lead a group better, hes no bossy, and hes smarter than Jack and Ralph. I don't think he is afraid of anything in the forest, and i think he has the guts to do whatever he must to help me and the group survive.
I would rather have Piggy as leader. Piggy was the only reasonable one when all the other boys created the fire. He rebuked them, as he should have. I think Piggy is very wise and smart. So I think Piggy would make a great leader instead.
ReplyDeleteIf I could choose a leader between Piggy, Ralph and Jack I would probably pick Ralph. He seems like he can be a leader to the others. Piggy could actually be a better leader but he would need to speak up much more. Ralph has good ideas and can execute them decently. I would not like Jack as a leader because he seems kind of psychotic and crazy! He seems like he would eat a person if he got the chance!
ReplyDeleteWho would I rather be the leader? Piggy, Ralph,or Jack?
ReplyDeleteI would want Ralph to be the leader because I think his focus is to be rescued as quickly as possible unlike everyone else who wants to have fun.I also think that Ralph has thought of many great ideas such as the fire.
I think that Piggy would make a very good leader. Piggy seems to know more about everything than anyone else does. He isn't mean or bossy. He's quiet and nice. He acts like an adult in this situation. I think that it's what they really need; a mature leader. Someone who doesn't yell at you for making a mistake, or treating you like dirt.
ReplyDeleteIthink the leader is gonna be Ralph because he cares about getting off the island and the safety of the others. I think he would make good choices to help the group survive on the island.
ReplyDeleteI would rather have Ralph as a leader. I would want Ralph to be my leader because he actually started listening to Piggy because he found out that he was a help. I think he would listen to people more than Jack and I also think that he gets along with mostly everyone. I think that he would be better than Piggy because alot of people don't like Piggy as much.
ReplyDeleteI would rather have Piggy as leader because he seems to be the only smart one on the island. Unlike Jack who only wants to hunt pigs, Piggy thinks before he does and has some good ideas. He is much more practical.
ReplyDeleteI would rather have Piggy as a leader because he is smart and knows what he is doing. He could show people to build huts or even how to make a fire that keeps the forest safe. I think he would be better than Ralph because Ralph doesn't listen to people. Piggy listens to people about new ideas and to the smaller children. He is also better than Jack because Jack is really mean to people, while Piggy has compassion.
ReplyDeleteI would choose to have Piggy as my leader. I would choose him because he is smarter than Jack and Ralph combined. So far, he has proven to make mature decisions. He thinks about what they need to survive. He also was able to use his glasses to help make the fire.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to pick a leader, it would have to be Piggy. Piggy knows what he needs to do to keep the others alive. He has better ideas, like to build a shelter first. Jack seems too caught up with his hunting to do anything else. Ralph is fair, and knows how to speak up. I think together, Piggy and Ralph would make a much better team in leading hand in hand.
ReplyDeleteI think that Ralph is the best leader in the group beacause he listens to everyones oppinion including piggies. I would pick piggy as the smartest kid there, but he cant lead because he is often outspoken and doesnt command as much power because he is fat. I think Jack is crazy and has lost it because he is not that smart and has a very small tolerance for different opinions. Overall I think that Ralph should be the leader but I think piggy should be his right hand man because he is so smart
ReplyDeleteI would rather have Ralph as a leader than Jack or Piggy. Ralph is smart and willing to act. He motivates people. Piggy is somewhat smart but I don't think anyone would listen to him. He lacks confidence in himself. Jack cant live up to what he says. Ralph takes everybody's opinion and chooses the best option, instead Jack would do what he wants and Piggy would never make up his mind. That is why I would want Ralph as a leader
ReplyDeleteIf I had to pick a leader I would probably pick Piggy as my leader. I think he would be the most fair and the nicest leader. I think Piggy is capable of taking charge and just needs to do it more ofter. I think Ralph would also be a good leader but I think he would be meaner to the boys and cause more caos. I think Piggy would be better at keeping the boys clam and giving them good advise. That is why I think Piggy would be a better leader.
ReplyDeleteI would want Piggy as the leader because he is smart and nice. Unlike Jack and Ralph, Piggy isn't stuck up and thinks he can do everything like Ralph or obsessed with hunting and mean like Jack. I think Piggy would be a better leader then Jack or Ralp.
ReplyDeleteI would want Jack out of Piggy, Jack, and Ralph becuase his main concern is to survive and thats really important. Now especially survive in order to recieve help they need to survive before help arrives. Even though Jack is all talk and no action maybe if the time drags on and he needs to make a desicison he'll do it and better the boys.
ReplyDeleteI rather have Ralph as my leader because I think he's smart and has good ideas. Ralph makes a good leader because he knows that there are no adults around to take care of them, so he is being a good leader and stepping up for everyone and not just for himself. He cares about getting everyone rescued off the island. So, I think Ralph would be a good leader.
ReplyDeleteIf I were them, I would have to choose between Piggy's knowledge, Jack's enthusiasm, and Ralph's leader-like qualities. Therefore, I choose Ralph because of his leadership qualities and he can always turn to Piggy for advice when he needs it, even if he is decent at what to do and decisions. Piggy's smart, but he lacks confidence and demanding character, and Jack is obsessed with hunting, not staying alive until a rescue.
ReplyDeleteI would rather have Piggy as a leader instead of Ralph or Jack. First of all, Piggy is intelligent, caring, and full of ideas. On the other hand, Ralph is just thinking about getting rescued off the island. Jack is impulsive; he acts before he thinks things through.
ReplyDeletePiggy acts like a mature adult. He thinks like a manager, but he can't make people follow him because of his image.
I would make piggy the leader because he actually listens to people.I think taht it's good he listens to everones ideas. He is kind and respects everyone. An will do what is best for everyone and not jost himself
ReplyDeleteI don't really believe I would pick any of them. They all have their strong points but also thier flaws; like most people. I would actually choose Simon...but he wasn't one of the choices. Back to what I said before, Piggy is caring and very intelligent but he isn't very confident and has trouble speaking up. Jack is just to eh. He thinks he's the smartest and best in the group so he has to be the leader. He has a lot of enthusiasm and takes action right away but is a little to confident. On the other-hand Ralph has great leadership skills and qualities. People actually listen to him. Ralph has an attention spam of a three year old and jumps into things to quickly, he should be think about his choices and actions before he makes his decision. Since I have to choose, I would choose Ralph he isn't to air-headed, wants to survive and to simply leave the island. Also he keeps everyone's hopes held high in the air and people actually listen to him.
ReplyDeleteI think I would have Piggy as the leader. Piggy knows how to do things on the island. He is mature and is really nice. He respects everyone and isn't mean to Jack because Jack is mean to Piggy. Image isn't important. To be a leader you have to be respectful and responsible.
ReplyDeleteMy leader of choice would be Piggy. Appearance doesn't mater, but how the brain reacts and responds to ideas and thoughts does. He knows what he's doing. Piggy knows how to survive and at the same time focus on getting rescued like Ralph does. I think he'd lose some weight throughout time, and although he'd have to prove himself, I'm sure he'd eventually become a well respected leader.
ReplyDeleteI would like Ralph to be the leader and Piggy to help out. Ralph is a good leader so far because he wants to get rescued but Jack wants to hunt. Piggy would be a good helper because he is smart and they need his glasses to start the fire.
ReplyDeleteIf I were dropped on a deserted like the boys I would definitely go crazy. I think you have to become some sort of crazy to be able to survive though. Like look at Piggy he was almost all sane and ended up being killed. Ralph almost ends up being killed and he was almost all sane too. Jack is completely crazy and everyone follows him and he seems like he is doing decently. I would go crazy probably the first day, no joke. I may start being even a Jack or Roger. I would not stay calm, it may sound horrible but I probably would go around hunting people.
ReplyDeleteIf I were stranded on an island the first thing I would do is find shelter. Then once shelter is established I would look for food. If there were other people I probably wouldn't associate myself with them because there are pros and cons with a larger group of people. One pro is there is protection in numbers, but a con maybe there maybe to many fights becauase of different opinions. I would stay as far away from them as possible. If there came a time when food was scarce I would probably stave than eat other people. The thought of being a cannibal grosses me out. This is what I would do if i was stranded on an island.
ReplyDeleteIf I was on the island I would try and keep sanity in the group for as long as possible. If we let go of our sanity people would begin to blame other people and then different groups would emerge and, people would begin to become paranoid and then people begin to die. You must also have a distinct leader of your group and not change the leader otherwise other groups with emerge and so on. I think i could also compare this to the miners that will be stuck in the shaft for 4 months. They all must keep there sanityor else one crazy person will create experacies and everyone will become paranoid.
ReplyDeleteIf I was stranded on an island with a group of people, I would put my first priority as getting rescued and the second priority as getting a supply of food and water. I would try and get rescued by making smoke signals with a fire, as they did in the book, or by any other method. I would want the group to be led by a charismatic person who does what the people want, and if people disagree, can make a compromise. If fights erupt, I would do my best to calm them down and focus on being rescued from the island.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to be stranded on a deserted island, I would probably keep myself from going crazy if I had sustainable food, water, and a group of people to interact with, because if I was trapped on a island without any people I think that I would probably start talking to a coconut.
ReplyDeleteIf I were stranded on a island I would definately build shelters. I would hunt too but I doubt I would get as obsessed as Jack. I do admit though that I would probably try to find a fort or hill to live on. But I know that my focus would always be on getting rescued even though I would like to have some fun on the island.
ReplyDeleteIf I were stranded on an island I would try to find a source of water and then look for food that wasn't poisonous. I would make a fire with smoke like the boys did for rescue, but I wouldn't become a savage and kill pigs like Jacks tribe.
ReplyDeleteI am having a hard time trying to imagine being on an island like that. I think that I would try to stay calm. I don't think I would end up hurting people like they did in the book. I think I would be most like Simon because Simon was calm for the most part. He did talk to the Lord of the Flies but he never became as savage as all the other boys on the island. I would focus on staying alive and being resued. I would always want to be with people and I would try to make as many friends as I could because I would not feel as alone if I had friends on the island.
ReplyDeleteIf I was stuck on the island, i would probably do the same thing as the boys. I would go crazy and start to kill things because I probably wouldnt be able to handle being on an island that long.
ReplyDeletei think we would have more knowleadge of how to survieve and i think i woldnt go crazy
ReplyDeleteI don't thing i would go crazy or act savage if i was on a deserted island i think i would be more worried about finding food and water.
ReplyDeleteIf I were stranded on an island with other people, I wouldn't do the same thing as the boys in Lord of the Flies. I would like it to be more organized and make sure that everyone will work their hardest with eachother to get off of the island. I would build a signal fire, just like in the book. Buiding the fire would be most important to me because thats the easiest way for a ship to find us. The next thing that would be important to me is food and water. It is also important to make sure that you stay alive just in case if a ship doesn't see you for months. I would try my hardest to help the group keep the fire going while staying alive.
ReplyDeleteIf I was stranded on an island like the boys, I would find the other people that were also stranded and maybe together we could figure out what to do. I would probably try to find fresh water to drink and, like Ralph, light a signal fire so I could be resued as soon as possible.
ReplyDeleteIf i was stranded on an island with many people, i would work hard to survive. If there was no food and someone was sick, i would have to kill them for food and commit cannibalism. I wouldn't enjoy killing them or eating them, but i would do whatever it takes to survive.
ReplyDeleteIf I were stranded on an island, I would freak out. I would cry a lot. I would probably go a little crazy. Finding food for me would be a huge problem. I would give up very easily. So, all in all I would freak out and not become a good hunter, or start a good fire.
ReplyDeleteIf I was stranded on the island I would probably go crazy. I would miss my friends and family too much. I wouldn't try and kill someone though. I wouldn't eat anyone because I would think it was disgusting and I would eat fruit instead.
ReplyDeleteIf I were stranded on the island, I'm not sure how I'd stay sane. Personally, I think I might turn into a Jack. Hopefully, without the killing part, though. If I were with my friends, I would try to find the smartest person within our group. I would then pick them as my leader.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't like to act like the boys in this book did, but some things would be nesscery for survivel. When you think about being on an island all alone, the first thing that would be in my mind is survival You have to eat. They killed the pigs to eat, but (unlike Jack) hunting wouldn't be my top priority. You have to have a fire for warmth. Also, unlike Ralph, the fire for warmth would not be first, but a signel fire would be higher up so we could be noticed and hopefully rescued. So they did what they had to do. Being rescued was number one to Ralph and I would put that was my first thing to do: How should we be rescued. The murders we not nesscery, though.
ReplyDeleteIf I were stuck on the island, my first priority would be to find other survivers. Then, I would go and try to build some sort of shelter, get food and attempt a fire. I would also stay on the beach the majority of the time because I wouldn't know what could possibly be living in the jungle. I most likely would become vegetarian because I don't enjoy hunting. I highly doubt I would become savage. I think that I'm a little more civilized then the boys. Hopefully, I never do get stranded on an island.
ReplyDeleteIf I were stranded on the island, I would try to pull everyone together at first and get to know each person. We would search for food, shelter, and water. Then, we would make a fire. After that, we'd get started on a hut, in case it would rain or something. If someone bothered me, or if I hated that person with a flowing passion, I would seriously kill them. No joke. I would then eat that person. You gotta do what you gotta do to survive. I would try my best not to give up if something didn't go right the first time. I'm not the kind of person who would spend all day in the woods, so I hope I would get used to the smell of sweat, dirt, and everything else. If the plane were there in one piece, we could actually use it for shelter. It would have a bathroom, and seats to rest or sleep on... if it didn't catch fire. Dying would be the last thing on my mind, because if I lived through it all, I would have one heck of a story to tell... And that's what I'd do if I were stranded on the island.
ReplyDeleteIf I was stranded on an island, I wouldn't do exactly what the boys did, but I would do some things that they did such as make a fire for signals to get off the island. One thing that I would definitely not do is eat a pig like the boys did. It's gross and I can't eat stuff the way the boys did. I would rather starve to death unless we get rescued right away. But other than that, I would starve. So that's what I would do if I was stranded on an island, starve.
ReplyDeleteI think if I were in the same situation as them at first i'd probably panic a bit, but then(since I watch a lot of survival shows) I think I would be able to survive. I think it would also be easier to survive with more people around, because you can spread the work. With a lot of people though, there are a lot of different personalities. So that if you get two leaders eventually you are going to have two groups. I think that no matter what, some people are going to become savage like Jack and some people are going to stay more sane like Ralph. I can't say for sure which one I would be. I don't think any of us really can. We can only go take a guess based on the facts that we have about ourselves now. I think that if I were in this situation, I would be more like Ralph and try to survive and get rescued, but I can never really know.
ReplyDeleteWell...If I was trapped on the Island...I would definitely have a boat with me and a cell phone. Back then though, well I would still have a boat, so I mean I could leave. Though if I didn't I would surely hunt like them sadly... and build huts and fires. If there would be more people I would work with them. I don"t believe they did such an amazing job on the island. Especially Jack..ew. I would hopefully be leader and hopefully be rescued quickly. I can't imagine staying there so long.
ReplyDeleteIf I was stuck on the island, I think I would start acting like them. At first I would be like scared and wanting to be rescued like Ralph. But after being on the island forever; I would think are we ever going to get off? Then I would just want to survive on the island like Jack. So I think I would act as a mix of Ralph, Piggy, and Jack. Agreeing with all of them at times, but disagreeing with all of them. I think I would go on Jacks tribe to survive, and not having almost the hole tribe against ne, and killing me. And I wouldn't worry about the fire, because I would know that Ralph and Piggy cared about it, and would keep it going.
ReplyDeleteIf I was to be stranded on an island with others, I would quickly kill everyone and keep one friend just so I wouldn't go crazy and be alone. I would risk him killing me though. I would store the food from who i killed somewhere cold probably down under the dirt where it is colder than the surface. After a while if the last kid started annoying me i would kill him too, and take my prior knowledge of survival, knowledge of this book, and common sense to survive as long as possible.
ReplyDeleteIf I were stranded on an island, hundreds of thousands of possibilities could occur. Hence the reason why I simply can't answer this question. For all I know, I could go into a state of shock, or know exactly what to do to survive. I've never been in a situation of this sort and can't decide what would happen. But IF my brain decided to function correctly, I'd probably try and find a food source near water. Then put my priorities into building a shelter. Afterwards, I'd probably begin to explore a little and get used to what's around me and hope to be rescued.
ReplyDeleteIf I was stranded on the island like the boys, I would probably think first how to get out. If Monica would of been there with me, we'd use the parachuter's parachute to fly away for rescue. I'd to it too, even if she weren't there. Second of all, I'd never probably kill anyone. Murder is just not my thing. I'd probably become a vegetarian. I would go and search the island for fruits. I also thought that maybe, if only the front of the plane crashed, there'd be a back; so I was thinking, Hey! There's a bathroom there! Even if the bathroom didn't work, there's always a chair! I would also make huts out of trees and use leaves for some great comfort. I would also make a fire like Ralph. I'd wear my sunglasses, so that I can make some smoke. I'd probably do this, until I got saved.
ReplyDeleteIf i was trapped on an island i would rather be stuck with at least 10 of my closest friends. then i would probably want to be leader because i don't like following peoples directions. Then we might die in a month or so.
ReplyDeleteIf i were stranded on an island i would first look for any other survivors on the island. Then i would first start making my symbol that if an craft passes by they could see im on the island. Next i would find my source of water that might be a stream or a river. If no stream or river i would dig into the ground, when i get deep enough i would eventually find water. I would next find my source of food. This might contain wild pigs, papayas, berries, coconuts, and wild grapes etc. My source of shelter would either be one i made or one that got me on the island. After i had all of these things accomplished i would expand on my symbols and try to reach the highest point on the island.
ReplyDeletei would run away and try to avoid being eaten. i would also just try to find food on my own.
ReplyDeletei think i would be along the same guidelines as the boys along hubnting and building shelters but i think i would not have a chief or a leader to avoid causing conflict between 2 groups or even have 2 teams.
ReplyDeleteIf I was stranded on an island I would freakout and go crazy. I probably would not be a good hunter because I don't think I could kill a pig like the boys did on the island. I wouldn't kill anybody because then I would be alone an I would be scared to death. I would think I would never survive and I would also think am I ever going to get off the island. I don't think I could survive on the island.
ReplyDeleteIf I were stuck on an island, I would go insane. I'd probably even talk to random pig heads. First of all, I wouldn't go towards the strange noise the conch made, so I'd be off alone in some corner of the island. I'd talk to myself and probably starve because I'm lazy and am not very good with nature. I've never even been camping! If I were with the boys I would definitely be on Ralph's side and spend all my time by the signal fire keeping it going. My top priority would be getting rescued. I would probably slap Jack across the face for being so obsessive.I'd probably slap them all. Me and Simon would probably best friends because we'd both be insane.
ReplyDeleteIf I were stranded, I wouldn't be like Ralph, calm and collected. I would be going crazy, because I am really used to civilization. But later, I would calm down and remember what I'm supposed to do when stranded, but I wouldn't form an alliance.
ReplyDelete
